Poole Harbour provides a great setting for training and practice expeditions whilst the River Thames can be used for a qualifying expedition.
A typical silver kayak package consists of six days of activity. Initially there will be two days of skills training, the first day will be spent learning navigation skills, first aid, camp craft and conservation awareness. The second day will be spent kayaking with an instructor applying those new skills and role playing emergency scenarios.
These two days will be followed by a practice expedition over three days and will require two nights out camping. Teams will work closely with an instructor on the first day but will move to more remote supervision on the second day.
There will then be a final, qualifying expedition. This will also take place over three days and the team will be remotely supervised by experienced instructors throughout.
