Spanish DofE Gold Walking Expedition 2025.
Mountain Ash Expeditions is pleased to offer a gold walking expedition in the Tramuntana Mountains of Mallorca (Majorca) in 2025. The Tramuntana Mountains lie to the north of the island covering a total distance of around 75 miles. The mountains are a World Heritage Site and are famous for their beauty and social/economic history. The whole area draws walkers, cyclists, climbers and tourists from around the world. Of particular interest to walkers are the GR (Grand Randonee) routes that cross the mountains. These are long distance walking routes that make use of the natural landscape to create safe walks through remote, stunning scenery. The most famous GR in Mallorca is the GR221, the Dry Stone route, which crosses the whole of the mountain range. The GR221 will form the backbone of the walking that will be undertaken on our expeditions.
During the expedition teams will walk under remote supervision. They will have bespoke trackers so we can monitor progress, and meet at pre-arranged checkpoints throughout the day to check on welfare and supply with water.
The Gold walking expedition will be broken into two parts, a practice expedition and a qualifying expedition.
The qualifying expedition will be run over 6 days in Mallorca with the following guide programme (subject to flights and weather).
- Travel Day – Flights to Mallorca de Palma Airport (*see below). Students will use public transport to journey to their accommodation. (Bunkhouse, subject to availability).
- 4 days – Expedition. Teams walk the GR221 in the mountains, camping overnight.
- 1 day – Dependant on Flights times the first or last day in Mallorca could be a rest and prep day or rest post expedition.
If flights times are not favourable for fitting in the expedition, then return will be on the 7th day. Should this be necessary it will require a small uplift in the price to cover additional overnight costs.
